.- Country Lakes Park has nothing of interest to me. As I recall an article from a past
Quad, it said something about it being the worst beach in the area and not to bother
going there. I will not allow my kids to go to Country Lakes by themselves. I feel it is
too dangerous - it is too secluded and who knows what kind of trouble could be
hanging out there. Also, it is a very long walk from our house. I want a place where
neighbors can meet within our neighborhood and not have to cross busy streets. A
small picnic shelter that the Lions Club is donating is all I want. Somewhere I can
pack a lunch and walk to. This would also be a great place for daycare providers to
bring their children, a place to have neighborhood meetings, and a place to have
block parties.
It was pointed out by one of the board members during the meeting that if residents
wanted a basketball hoop, they could put them up on their own driveway. I do have a
basketball hoop in my driveway. My driveway is also slanted a bit and balls are
constantly rolling into the street. I am also being asked all the time to move the cars so
that my kids can play. I see nothing wrong with a basketball hoop in the park -
especially if we are willing to fund it. Many residents have swing sets in their
backyards, but there are swings in the park.
I do not, at all, feel we are moving too fast. After all, I have been in the neighborhood
four years and as far as 1 am concerned, have nothing of use in our park. If and when
we acquire the land to the south, we would like to see a hockey rink there. We need
. this to be on the master plan if we are to start fund raising. We feel this is an excellent
location for a hockey rink as there is wetland surrounding the area and therefore lights
will not be a burden on the surrounding neighbors. There is also potential parking
from 62nd. With this on the master plan, potential lot purchasers will see that a hockey
rink will be there someday and hopefully alleviate any upcoming opposition to a
hockey rink. There is a lot of existing park land that sits empty waiting for the amenities
requested by the people who signed our petitions. You can see, four of the five
petitions finished in the top four of the survey the Park Board sent to the residents.
And so what if people use our park - isn't that what it is for? I cannot think of any Lino
Lakes parks that I would want to visit at this time. Shoreview, yes - they have nice
parks. Why should our park suffer because the other parks may not have what our
park does? It seems the Park Board is afraid to put anything into the parks for fear
someone might use them.
The parking is something else and I remember back a few months, we were told, "If it is
a problem, we will deal with it then." I foresee only neighborhood residents using the
park and an occasional car here or there does not constitute a parking problem to me.
I would rather see parked cars on the streets than our kids.
I sympathize with the residents surrounding the park to an extent. They all knew it was
park land when they purchased their lots and each lot owner in the bordering
developments contributed the same amount of money to the park. I think the Park
