Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department
7204 Lake Drive
O F Lino Lakes, MN 55014
N KE (612) 780-1885 Fax (612) 784-7227
May 26, 1998
TO: Park Board Members
FROM: Mike Hoffman, Lead Worker—Parks
SUBJECT: May Parks Maintenance Update
Well, I hope everyone survived the storm on Friday, May 15. As you may know some of our
parks were not so fortunate.
Sunrise Park was hardest hit with approximately 50 large trees (mostly Red Oak)being removed,
another 40-50 trees suffered substantial damage requiring radical pruning. Pruning cuts were
painted to prevent Oak Wilt infection to the remaining trees, but, with that amount of damage,
the potential for some infection exists. We will be monitoring the remaining trees closely for
signs of infection.
Additional damage at Sunrise included:
Roof damage to Shelter#2.
Roof damage to warming house.
Fencing damage to Fields#1 (outfield minimal).
Fencing damage to Field#2 approximately 250' of 6' fabric ripped from fence posts from
center field to left field. The entire outfield fence on#2 has been replaced with 8' fabric.
Field#3 backstop and out of play fence damaged.
Many other park areas also sustained damage but I believe Rick will bring you up to date on
those areas.
Maintenance activity during May have included mowing, fertilization, irrigation system repair
and maintenance, tree planting, athletic field maintenance and preparation, garbage pickux, and
playground installation at Sunrise Park which we now hope to have completed by June 5 .
Since the storm, our major push has been storm cleanup both along city streets and within the
city parks, to ensure the safety of park users and city residents.
sw/mike/May Parks Maintenance Update.doc
