City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
April 6, 1998
Sharon Lane made a motion to keep the name of the park Marshan
Park, seconded by Pam Taschuk. The motion was approved
unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF RECREATION SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH CIRCLE PINES:
Rick indicated that the Board had a copy of the Recreational
Services Agreement with Circle Pines . Last year, Lino Lakes
began providing a summer playground program at two sites for the
City of Circle Pines . He explained that the purpose of this
Agreement was to extend the term of last year' s arrangement . The
Agreement states that Lino Lakes will be providing two summer
playground sites in Circle Pines for a fee of $3, 500 per site.
Rick stated that this cooperative effort has worked well for both
communities and they anticipate continuing this arrangement into
the future.
Sharon asked if this was basically the same agreement . Rick
verified that it was .
RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATE :
Rick indicated that the Board had a copy of the Parks and
Recreation Department Spring Program Update, prepared by
Recreation Program Supervisor, Barry Bernstein, who has been
concentrating on hiring summer staff as well as finding available
practice times for all activities . Rick explained that this was
for the Board' s information and to show them what type of things
Mr. Bernstein had been working on. He then said that he would
answer any questions of the Board.
Rick added that eighteen applications were received for the part-
time Recreation Supervisor I position. The position has been
offered to a candidate and they hope to hear back within a few
days . If the candidate does accept the position, they would be
going to Council for approval at the April 13, 1998, meeting.
Sharon then clarified that the position called for twenty hours a
week. Rick stated that it was as part-time position but the hours
would vary between the summer programs and the non-summer
programs .
Jeff questioned whether this might turn into a full-time
position. Rick said he hoped that it would if they had the
funding. He was confident that once they got this person in
place they would see a lot of additional programs and special
events . Then they would be able to consider this for a full-time
position.
PARKS DEPARTMENT UPDATE :
Rick summarized the memo that the Board received from Mike
Hoffman, Parks Maintenance Supervisor, that listed the
11
