Fireman' s Pole
Existing hardware fails protrusion test. Concrete footing not
covered with enough surfacing material .
Tube Slide
Entrapment danger exists where deck and slide attach. Stainless
steel retains heat.
Small Slide
Missing end caps on slide rails .
Tot Swings
Rusted hardware and hangers . Hardware fails protrusion test.
Fall/use zone inadequate 9' from existing border, 15' minimum
required. Fiberglass wrap on poles is peeling.
10' Swing
Rusted hardware . Fall/use zone inadequate. 14' from border
existing, 20' minimum required. Fiberglass wrap on poles
peeling, chains rusting.
Merry-Go-Round:
Not level (footing shifted) Compacted surfacing material .
As you can see there are numerous safety/liability concerns
associated with this playground. A number of these issues can
be corrected through retrofitting and new surfacing and border
material . I however question whether we wish to assume the
liability associated with retrofitting or the expense of new
surfacing material and border for a playground that is 17+ years
of age.
I recommend removal of this playground as soon as possible with
the intent of replacing it next spring.
