City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Goal Setting Meeting
n November 25, 1997
REFERENDUM DISCUSSION
The referendum meeting was discussed and it was decided if the
Park Board is going to proceed with the project and if there are
enough people to work on it . There are time constraints with a
limited dollar amount that can be sought .
Rick' s initial proposal considered the following amounts :
1 . Athletic Complex $ 2 .5M
2 . Trails (approx. 7 miles) $500, 000 .
3 . Neighborhood Parks $ 1 . OM
4 . Teen/Senior Center $250, 000 .
These can and certainly will be adjusted. Ecological
preservation and management of natural resources are also an
option.
George said we need to keep in mind the need for additional
maintenance, that will be required, if the referendum passes .
Pam asked if Rick thought this could be done in 5 months . Joe is
concerned about doing it in 5-6 months because he does not think
all the information can be put together. Rick responded yes it
can, but, people are going to have to work very hard.
Paul asked if staff would have time to designate the dollar
amount needed for each park. Rick said Jeff Schoenbauer would
assist us with developing the cost figures .
George feels there is a need of urgency to do the referendum now.
Rick said if we are going to pursue this it needs to be done now
and not the year 2000 .
Barry said he has been talking referendum for several years to
organizations and users . He feels there is never going to be
another chance to do this .
Paul said we will have to be prepared when going to meetings so
we are informed.
George said we need to ask for enough money because we can not go
back and ask for more .
3
