City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
October 5, 1998
PARKS DEPARTMENT UPDATE:
Rick referred to a memo from Mike Hoffman, Lead Worker. He
stated the during August and September Maintenance staff have
been kept extremely busy with site preparation and installation
of two new playgrounds . The Birch Park playground was installed
Saturday, August 15, 1998 . This project is nearly completed with
some minor landscaping remaining.
Rick stated that Shenandoah Park was installed the following week
with the structure support posts being set by City staff and a
professional installer on August 20 and 21, 1998 . The
neighborhood volunteers should be commended for their time and
hard work. The addition of these playgrounds has made a huge
visual impact to each park and will certainly increase park usage
by area residents .
Rick noted the Lino Park playground was installed October 3 and
the Rice Lake Estates playground is scheduled for installation on
October 24 , 1998 .
Paul asked if all the spring storm damage has been taken care of .
.+ Rick stated repairs have progressed well . A fence and picnic
shelter still need to be replaced. He stated he is looking into
reforestation at Sunrise Park.
1998-99 Skating Rink Locations and Hours - Rick referred to an
outline of warming house shelters and hours of operation that
staff is recommending. He stated the hours are identical to last
year' s hours with the exception of all rinks closing at 6 : OOpm on
Sundays . Last year, Sunrise Park and City Hall Park were open
until 7 : OOpm on Sundays .
Rick noted the staff recommendations regarding ice rink locations
that do not have shelters which include Shenandoah Park, Marshan
Park, Sunset Oaks Park, and Country Lakes Park or Rice Lake
Elementary School .
Paul asked about staffing for the ice rinks . Rick stated he is
comfortable he will be able to staff all the rinks .
Chair Lindy asked about a rink at either Country Lakes Park or
Rice Lake Elementary School . Rick stated he is in discussions
with the Principal regarding a rink at the school . He indicated
he feels the rink would be more beneficial at the school . The
problem is finding a suitable location that has easy access for
maintenance vehicles . There is not a hydrant there so a water
tanker would have to be used.
5
