City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
May 3, 1999
The Park Board discussed many different park locations for the
proposed skateboard park. It was determined that there is not an
existing area that is conducive to a skateboard park.
Pam suggested Lino Elementary be approached because they are in a
different school district . Rick indicated he can pursue that
option.
Rick stated that surrounding cities are pursuing a skateboard
park on their own. If the parks are successful, the National
Sports Center may look at a large scale cooperative effort .
Rick noted that Blaine and Shoreview are each in the process of
developing a skateboard park.
It was the consensus of the Park Board to put the skateboard park
on hold because there is no property that lends itself to it .
More funding may be available for the project at a later date to
do something of a larger magnitude. Updates regarding the Blaine
and Shoreview skateboard parks will be provided.
s- Paul asked about the two lots that might be combined in Rice
Creek Estates . Rick advised that soil testing is currently being
done. More information will be available at the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS•
Paul asked again that park dollars coming from residential,
commercial, and industrial development be reviewed. The current
policy needs to be reviewed. He suggested the Park Board go to
the City Council and request dollars come from the General Fund
for park maintenance .
Pat added that as park inventory increases, park maintenance will
be even more of an issue .
Jeff suggested charging 1% of the lot price from new development
to fund the development of parks . Maintenance has to come from
the General Fund. He also suggested using the developers
equipment on ground prep as a way to save money.
Chair Lindy stated that the City Council understands the need for
park dollars . He added that the legality of collecting 1% on new
lots has to go through the City and not the developer.
Pat suggested the Park Board develop a plan for additional park
dollars .
7
