City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
April 5, 1999
Rick stated play structure installation has been scheduled for
Saturday, May 22 , 1999, for Marshan Park and Saturday, June 19,
1999, for Arena Acres Park. Volunteers are needed to help with
the installation.
Paul asked how the snowplowing of trails worked out this winter.
Rick advised he received mostly positive comments about the trail
plowing. He stated more turf was damaged than anticipated. He
stated he believes the Parks Department will continue to plow the
trails next year. He noted it takes 4-5 hours to complete the
trail plowing.
Jeff asked about play structure damage that occurred over the
winter. Rick advised damage was done due to delivery at Lino
Park. Repair work is being pursued with the vendor. The paint
has peeled off of the track ride at Rice Lake Estates Park. The
vendor has agreed to fix it .
OLD BUSINESS•
No Skateboard Park at Middle School - Rick stated the school
district has decided not to permit the City to place ramps in the
middle school parking lot . The school district' s primary concern
dealt with the fact that the school district prohibits
skateboarding on school grounds . Another concern was potential
vandalism that could occur around the middle school grounds and
building.
Chair Lindy stated he spoke to Mulner Blacktop and they are
expected to give the Parks Department an estimate to pave an
outdoor skating rink. Rick stated it is a good idea to get an
estimate for future reference.
Chair Lindy asked that the estimate be put together for the May,
1999, meeting.
Paul asked that Rick also determine a space requirement for
placing the wheels ramp in the skating rink at City Hall Park.
Review Park Dedication Fund Balance - Rick referred to an updated
park dedication fund summary. Approximately $14 , 000 was found to
have been miscoded from 1995 - 1997 . The updated summary
reflects this correction.
NEW BUSINESS:
Paul asked that the park dollars coming from residential,
commercial , and industrial development be reviewed. He suggested
the Park Board review how other cities obtain park money.
5
