Park Board Meeting
.•Wn Monday, June 3, 1991
team softball league and a co-educational softball league. Barry
Bernstein is doing an excellent job for the short time he has been
here. The department is also offering golf lessons in cooperation
with Deer Meadows Driving Range.
A coaches certification clinic was held last Saturday to get
volunteer coaches involved and sanctioned with the NYSCA (National
Youth Sports Coaching Association).
Marty says Centennial School is starting to make plans for a
recreation person to be housed there, this recreation person would
shuttle between two offices. Perhaps Forest Lake could get involved
in a similar situation. Don Volk and Marty have been in contact
with people from the Forest Lake School District regarding a joint
use agreement, and are hopeful that something can be worked out
with them.
Marty feels we should try to get involved with a hockey program in
conjunction with both school districts. He would like to see girls
get involved in a Ringette program.
Forestry Update - Marty Asleson reported that the boulevard tree
planting project in the Sunrise Meadows and Sunnygate developments
r1 is under way.
The developers are honoring our tree protection policy and are
submitting plans for tree preservation along with their building
plans. Brandywood, currently in the development stages, is the
first development to be involved with our Tree Preservation
Ordinance.
Bill Nissen suggested to Marty that he take a look at the nice
Spruce trees at the new Birch School site, they could be taken out
and re -planted. Marty agreed that those are very nice trees, it's
a good suggestion. A lot of people call and donate trees to the
City if we come and take them out.
The Anoka County Tree Board had it's second meeting. Marty feels
that not only will the County benefit from the efforts of this
board, but the. City as well.
OTHER OLD BUSINESS:
Marty informed the board that he and Don Volk are still working on
a formulation that will increase park dedication fees. This new
formula will be coming back to the board for approval. Ken Johnson
asked what was wrong with the way that it had been previously
discussed, just set a per lot figure and use a sliding scale. Marty
Page 5
