Introduction City of Lino Lakes <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> The Americans With Disabilities Act of July 1990 is the most recent in a series of civil <br /> rights laws for persons with disabilities. The City of Lino Lakes is obliged by the Americans <br /> with Disabilities Act and earlier laws pertaining to the rights of persons with disabilities <br /> including the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Americans With Disabilities Act expands the <br /> rights of individuals with disabilities and increases the number of people protected under <br /> the law. The Americans With Disabilities Act provides protection/opportunities for any <br /> individual with a disability who chooses to use the programs, services and benefits of the <br /> City of Lino Lakes. <br /> The Americans with Disabilities Act states that each governing entity is to conduct a self- <br /> evaluation of their programs, policies, services, benefits and facilities. It was the charge of <br /> Julee Quarve-Peterson, Inc. to assist in the development of the self-evaluation process. <br /> The self-evaluation "multi-step" process used to fulfill the obligations of the City of Lino <br /> Lakes is outlined below and it is encouraged the City fulfill these activities: <br /> ♦ The City of Lino Lakes is to designate an employee who is to assume the role <br /> of the Americans With Disabilities Act coordinator. The ADA coordinator <br /> will ensure that the purpose and impact of the ADA is effectively <br /> communicated to the public and staff. It will also be their responsibility to <br /> follow-up on the implementation of the act. <br /> ♦ The City of Lino Lakes is to inform the public of it's efforts to remove <br /> barriers within the City to accommodate the needs of individuals with <br /> disabilities. This notification is to occur in several sources of media such as <br /> newspaper, radio and television. It is also required that continuing <br /> notification occur at such time as modifications to policies, procedures or <br /> structures are implemented. <br /> ♦ The City of Lino Lakes is to ensure that any written communication <br /> produced, such as newsletters, City Council meeting agendas, Park and <br /> Recreation offerings, Community Development information and forms, etc. <br /> be available upon request in alternate formats to accommodate individuals <br /> with visual impairments. Other auxiliary services and aids, such as assistive <br /> listening system kits and sign language interpreters, are to be available upon <br /> request as well to accommodate persons who may be hard of hearing or deaf. <br /> ♦ The City of Lino Lakes is to establish a grievance procedure. This grievance <br /> procedure is to ensure that a documented process is in place to allow <br /> individuals with grievances (regarding accessibility) a due process as a <br /> response to their concerns. <br /> julee quarve-peterson,inc.
