CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1994
surrounding communities. George stated we need to get someone in
this position immediately. He wanted to know if it was a Park
Board issue or if the City Council would decide on this position.
Marty thought he would update the City Council and he had two
people to interview for this position. He said we need someone
in the position that is aggressive and can pickup where we left
off with the program.
Barry gave an overview of the skating program the department is
offering. He has hired a new instructor that is interested in
teaching a longblade skating program. Barry said she also has
experience in in-line skating. He suggested an oval at Country
Lakes Park for the longblade skating program.
Barry and Marty discussed the format of the new newsletter/Park
and Recreation brochure. Barry stated that the Recreation Focus
Committee recommended the program brochure be sent out more often
so it was decided to incorporate it with the City newsletter and
it will be sent out four times a year. Barry said the program
guide will have dark bordered pages to help off set the Park and
Recreation section of the newsletter/brochure.
Marty then discussed ice rinks. He said we need cold weather to
be able to flood the rinks. George said he had contacted an
asphalt contractor about the cost of an in-line skating rink.
The quote was for a 4 inch base with 3 inch asphalt. The cost
would be 95 cents/foot. Brian said 2 inches would be sufficient
and figured it would cost 80 cents/foot. The cost would be
approximately $6500.00, however, it would be more cost effective
if the paving is done before the boards are put in because it is
easier to get the equipment in. After further discussion it was
decided it would be best to put the in-line rink in the new rink
at City Hall Park.
C. Friends of the Park: Marty reported that the Friends of the
Park will not be meeting in December. He said Moline Concrete
has offered to help move the Shoreview building to the City Hall
Park site. He suggested that we get quotes to have this done.
He said they are also going to donate 12 concrete picnic tables.
Marty said that Moline is very interested in building a business
arm of Friends of the Park. George stated Moline Concrete should
be recognized with plaques for the work at City Hall Park and the
donation of tables. He feels they should also be recognition in
the newspapers.
E. Country Lakes Park: Marty explained this is OSM Project
r. 5409.00. He discussed moving the parking lot from the commons
area up to the West Shadow Lake Drive area. He said there was
6
