City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Goal Setting Meeting
Wednesday, September 20, 1995
alot of negatives on this issue .
Marty said when we discuss goals we should keep in mind how
we are going to maintain, keep up and do all the things that
are needed to be done when developing a system. We should
also think about safety issues and maintaining the
playground equipment in the parks .
Mary told the Park Board Members that there was a survey in
the 1996 budget . It had originally been for the Park and
Recreation Departments but it seems that it has turned into
a more citywide survey. Marty said a professional polling
company will be doing the survey and they know how to ask
the question so you get a true reflection.
Marty suggested, in the future, we will need to seal coat
the trails . Amy asked if this would prolong the life of the
trails . She asked what would be the life span of a trail if
no maintenance was done . Marty said probably 7-10 years but
if they were properly maintained they should last 20 years .
Pam said maybe the city should have an adopt a trail
program.
The members and Marty thanked Mary for coming to speak to
the board.
Marty reviewed the goals in the Comprehensive Park Plan and
Development Guide. He talked about the criteria for
prioritizing acquisition including development patterns and
population growth, land availability, community demand and
preservation of significant natural resources . He went on
to talk about the criteria for development, including
community demand, recreational program needs and
redevelopment/upgrading of facilities .
He told the board that we need to continue working on joint
efforts with Circle Pines on the Rice Lake Estates Park.
Hopefully we will be able to get the master planning done
this winter.
Quail Ridge has trail issues - linking Captains Place with
the dedicated land.
He then talked about the athletic complex land acquisition.
He feels a decision is going to have to be made in the near
2
