1 <br /> <br /> <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />TITLE: Communications Specialist <br />REPORTS TO: Human Resources and Communications Manager <br />DEPARTMENT: Administration <br />STATUS: Full-time/Exempt/Union <br /> <br />PRIMARY SUMMARY <br />Under the supervision and direction of the Human Resources and Communications Manager, the <br />Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating, designing, writing, and implementing <br />the production of professional digital, electronic and print publications and communications that <br />educate and inform the public and staff of City policies, programs, and events. Develops, <br />produces, and distributes communications pieces and marketing materials through appropriate <br />communication channels. <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES <br />1. Coordinates the City’s communications efforts to meet the goals, objectives, and timelines of <br />the City Council and City departments. <br />2. Responsible for coordinating, scheduling, designing, writing, editing, and preparing pieces <br />for City residents and employees, including newsletters, brochures, flyers, and electronic <br />communication as directed. <br />3. Works closely with all departments to develop and produce communication pieces to <br />promote individual programs and enhance public information. <br />4. Covers all City operations and works with departments on effectively capturing relevant <br />information then distributing it for both internal and external purposes. <br />5. Serves as a photographer, videographer, and editor. Takes and prepares photos and video for <br />web, social media, and print promotions. <br />6. Creates consistency in City voice, image and branding through the creation and maintenance <br />of various form layouts, templates and logos. <br />7. Responsible for updating the City's website by creating and linking content and ensuring the <br />site is current and relevant. <br />8. Creates and edits videos for YouTube, website, and social media; researches trends and video <br />tools. <br />9. Monitors effectiveness of communications and communication tools. Recommends and <br />implements changes to enhance effectiveness based on feedback and analysis. <br />10. Directs the media to the appropriate staff member or may, at times, speak to the press about <br />issues.
