CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: February 10, 2020 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Community Service Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Zachary Beddow for the vacant <br />Community Service Officer position. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There is currently a Community Service Officer vacancy within the Public Safety Department. <br />At this time, staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Beddow for the position. <br /> <br />Beddow is working towards a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, is currently a Police <br />Reserve Officer for the City of Lino Lakes, and holds basic first aid and CPR certifications. <br /> <br />The hourly rate would be $18.06, which is step 1 of the AFSCME Labor Contract. The wage <br />schedule has six steps. With the Council’s approval, Beddow would start in the position of <br />Community Service Officer in mid to late February, 2020. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Zachary Beddow to the Community Service Officer position. <br />
