7

LANDSCAPE PLAN

Tree Preservation and Mitigation Standards

The purpose of these standards is to protect valuable trees and stands of vegetation while
not interfering with landowners’ reasonable use and development of property. The goal
is to minimize unnecessary loss of habitat, biodiversity, and forest resources and to
replace removed trees in areas where tree cover is most critical.

The Tree Preservation Plan calls for preserving 22 of 55 trees inventoried.

The plan calls for removals of 33 trees of 55 trees inventoried. All of the removals are in
Basic Use Areas, which are within grading limits, or associated with construction of a
retaining wall on the east perimeter.

Removals:
Basic Use Area Natural Resource
Protected Area
Non-Environmentally
Sensitive Area
Mitigation Trees
Required
27 No 27 0
6 6 No 2

27 of the removals are in Basic Use Area, and non-environmentally sensitive areas.
These removals will not require mitigation trees.

The other 6 removals are in Basic Use Area and Natural Resource Protected Area. These
trees require 1 mitigation tree for every 2 trees removed. In this case, three of these trees
are undesirable, due to being in poor condition or being an invasive species. The other 3
trees require mitigation at the rate of 1 mitigation tree per 2 trees removed, resulting in 2
mitigation trees being required for the project.

The 2 green ash (T1040 and T1041) should be added to the removals list.

Any trees to be preserved must be protected as described in the Tree Protection Fence
Detail. This detail plate should be added to the details sheet in the plans.

Mitigation trees have been credited through open space plantings.

Preservation and mitigation standards have been met.

Open Areas Landscape Standards

The purpose of these standards is to provide general site beautification and high aesthetic
quality with a mix of plant materials in open areas. Open area landscape standards call
for 1 large tree and 3 large shrubs per 2000 sq. ft.
The following substitutions are allowable:
1 large tree = 1.5 medium or 2 small trees
