STAFF ORIGINATOR
MEETING DATE
TOPIC:
VOTE REQUIRED
INTRODUCTION
CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 1D
Julie Bartell, City Clerk
March 14, 2022
Consider Resolution No. 22-27, Reestablishing Precincts and
Polling Locations
Simple Majority (3/5 vote)
Redistricting is the process of redrawing the boundaries of election districts after completion of
the decennial Census. The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that people are equally
represented.
Municipalities can be impacted by the redrawing of lines because legislative boundaries (state
and federal) can change and municipal voting precincts boundaries must coincide with those
lines.
The Special Redistricting Panel appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court released a
redistricting plan/map in February. In effect, the plan includes no impact to Lino Lakes'
congressional and legislative voting districts. The City remains in the 6th District (Congress)
and is fully included in one state legislative district now numbered as 36(A).
BACKGROUND
Municipalities are required to review voting districts after redistricting and prior to March 28t'.
Staff is presenting a resolution reestablishing municipal precinct lines and polling places for
Lino Lakes, including the precinct line change requested by the council at the January 24th
work session.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending approval of Resolution No. 22-27.
ATTACHMENTS
1. 2022 Voting Precinct Map with Polling Locations
2.
