I've reached out to staff and was able to put
together a committee of firefighters from both fire stations and from our Duty Crew. The
Committee is made up of the following; From Station 1 Firefighters: West Thole, Brian
Gustafson, and Vince Kasprowicz. From Station 2: Mark Tembreull, Paul Kartman. From the
Duty Crew Brian Finke. My goal with this group was to have people who understand our
agency's needs, as well as the needs of our community we serve.
The committee started meeting on May 18th. We have met 8 times, both in person and via Zoom.
The meetings lasted several hours. A list of items that set the basics of what our agency needed
to meet the ISO (Insurance Services Office) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)
requirements. At our first meeting, we came to an agreement on these items. The next item was
commercial chassis or custom chassis. Supply chain issues and unknown manufacturers' delivery
played a great part in this decision. Finding availability of components and researching
alternatives of components occupied many of the meetings. Many of these components that are
available have been seeing price increases monthly. We met Thursday, July 21 st and we have a
specification complete.
The estimated cost is between $1,100,000 to $1,200,000 per truck. We are finding that the cost is
rising around 5% per month since we started working on this specification in early May. With
the cost of steel and other components increasing, the sooner we can order and secure pricing the
better. This cost does not include equipment that we cannot move from the current tender to the
new trucks. Some of this equipment is not currently carried on our tenders, because they are not
pumpers. This equipment is fire attack hose, supply hose, thermal imaging camera, and other
miscellaneous tools. Also, not included in this price, is the cost to install the radios, intercom,
tool mounting and graphics on the apparatus. The estimated cost of these items would be
approximately $100,000.
ONE VISION. ONE MISSION. LINO LAKES PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT.
