The existing land use on site is a sod farm formally known as the Robinson Landscaping, Inc. The property also
includes an office and buildings used for operation of the sod farm. The topography of the site is flat with
multiple public and private ditches providing drainage and irrigation to the site. Based on the soil borings
taken on site, the topsoil mostly consisted of peat with sand and silt below the topsoil. The water table at the
soil boring locations taken throughout the site ranged from five to ten feet below the surface.
An approved wetland delineation has not been conducted on site at this time. However, as mentioned above,
there are public and private drainage ditches on site. The site occurs in a floodplain area so there is potential
for degraded farmed wetlands to be present on site.
Based on the habitat descriptions for the rare plants and animals within 1 mile of the project site, it is unlikely
that this site provides suitable habitat for these species to become established and exist on site. The site
undergoes routine disturbance to vegetation and soil due to the sod farming practices, the hydrology is
manipulated through private and public drainage systems, and any potential wetlands present on site have
been farmed. If any of the identified vegetation or the Blanding's turtle is found during construction,
appropriate measures will be taken to avoid any impact or disturbance to the identified populations on site.
Based on the documentation provided here, a MN DNR concurrence letter is being requested for this NHIS
review.
Sincerely,
Keara Pringle
733 Marquette Ave Ste 700 612.758.3080 MAIN
Minneapolis, MN 55402 612158.3099 FAX www.alliant-inc.coni
