WSB PROJECT EXPERIENCE EXAMPLE
Lime Softening Water Treatment Plant Improvements
CLIENT CITY OF TONKA BAY
LOCATION: TONKA BAY, MN
DURATION: DEC 2019
11
WSB evaluated, designed, and provided construction
services for improvements to an existing 1,000 gallon per
minute (gpm) lime softening water treatment plant (WTP).
The WTP was originally constructed in 1972 and
included a lime silo, lime slaker, clarifier (contact basin),
recarbonation basin, three filters, backwash reclaim, and
a clearwell. Given the plant's age, several process and
electrical components were in very poor condition and
made it difficult for the city to deliver consistent water
quality. After careful evaluation of the existing conditions
and improvement alternatives, it was decided to upgrade
the existing pebble lime feed system to a hydrated
lime feed system, to replace several of the process and
electrical components, and to rehabilitate the existing
building structure and architecture. The updated
process and electrical equipment will allow for greater
automation of the treatment processes and will reduce
the operational burden on city staff.
WSB STAFF: GREG JOHNSON, JON CHRISTENSEN, GREG
GLUNZ
A Proposal for Design, Bidding, and Construction Administration for a
Water Treatment Plant for City of Lino Lakes
Relative Experience, Qualifications, & References 29
