EXAMPLE AWARD NOMINATION I WEST WATER TREATMENT PLANT INNOVATIVE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT The West Water Treatement Plant project was completed under budget and on schedule. The general contractor, Rice Lake Construction Group, provided construction management and coordinated 62 subcontractors and major material suppliers. Over 220 shop drawing submittals, 80 requests for information (RFIs), 10 field orders, and many other clarifications were processed through the duration of the project to ensure the plant was constructed properly and up to industry standard. The contractor conducted extensive pre -construction planning by investing time with project staff to develop key strategies for construction. For example, they developed an effective strategy for the mass excavation of the structures while creating a "working platform" out of the side of a large hill on site. With the project being located mostly at the top of the hill, surrounded by steep slopes, there were little means for access and construction staging. Without excavating the project area the contractor would not have had enough work space or access for materials storage, requiring additional materials to be stored off site. The contractor also streamlined the planning process by using Critical Path Management/Scheduling. Knowing the critical path and adjusting as needed was essential to proper job planning.
