Review Regular Agenda
17
18 Item 3A, Hiring of Maintenance Position - Councilmember Stoesz asked that the item
19 be held for further discussion as he is not able to support the request at this time.
20
21 Administrator Cotton noted that Councilmember Stoesz has sent questions and staff has
22 responded. Regarding the question of salary, she noted that this supervisory position is
23 grading at a certain level and has been compared with similar positions in other cities
24 (through the League of Minnesota Cities). She noted that staff can provide additional
25 information but she isn't certain that it will change any minds; the services and skills are
26 needed to run The Rookery facility.
27
28 Mayor Rafferty noted that he has spoken with Justin Williams, Public Works
29 Superintendent, and has heard about the need for the position and the skills and
30 knowledge that it brings. This is a trade position and the pay seems appropriate.
31
32 Councilmember Stoesz suggested that a contract may be possible for some services. He
33 feels that the equipment is new at the building and shouldn't need much attention. As
34 well the services have been provided without a new position to this point. Administrator
35 Cotton remarked that contracted services are very expensive and there is certainly benefit
36 to having someone on staff to provide services when needed to keep the facility running
37 smoothly.
38
39 The council will consider an action at tonight's meeting.
40
41 Human Resources and Communications Manager Sawyer reviewed all of the hiring
42 recommendations.
43
44 Item 4A, Sale of Fire Apparatus — Director Swenson reviewed the process to date for
45 decommissioning this piece of equipment and that the best offer is being presented for
1
