CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 5B <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Justin Williams, Public Works Superintendent <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: November 28, 2022 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider 1st Reading of Ordinance No. 09-22, Amendment to <br />City Code Section 507.06, Solid Waste Storage <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The City Council is being asked to approve an ordinance amendment to Chapter 507.06: Solid <br />Waste Storage. The amendment is an addition of clarifying language regarding acceptable <br />placement of solid waste containers. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Trash, recycling, and yard waste bins are often placed in the street on scheduled pickup days. <br />Public Works staff have noted that this is interfering with plowing the streets from curb to curb, <br />street sweeping, and other maintenance activities. In winter this results in less usable, plowed <br />space on the streets, which impacts public safety. <br /> <br />An ordinance amendment to clarify acceptable placement of solid waste containers on pickup <br />days will keep the streets clear and ensure that maintenance activities, such as plowing, are <br />performed in the most efficient manner. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Consider 1st Reading of Ordinance No. 09-22 amending Section 507.06 of City Code relating to <br />Solid Waste Storage. <br /> <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br /> <br />Ordinance No. 09-22 <br /> <br />
