CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources and Communications Manager <br />MEETING DATE: May 8, 2023 <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Paid On-Call Firefighter <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Michael Carlson for a Paid On-Call <br />Firefighter position in the Public Safety Department. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is recommending <br />the approval of Carlson for a Paid On-Call Firefighter position. <br />Currently the City has nine firefighters at Fire Station 1 and eleven firefighters at Fire Station 2. <br />Full staffed would be 20 firefighters at each station. <br />The hourly rate of pay is $15, which is the starting rate of pay for the position. Upon <br />completion of 5 years of service, Carlson would be eligible for a rate increase. <br />With the Council’s approval, Carlson would start in the position on May 15 , 2023. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Please approve the appointment of Michael Carlson to the Paid On-Call Firefighter position.
