LLPSD Employee Wellness – An Intentional Priority

Current Wellness Programming:

The LLPSD has an employee wellness program that provides the following:
 Functional physical fitness facility in the Police Division facility that is accessible to all
public safety personnel.
 Employees can work out on-duty within one of our public safety facilities.
 Conduct department training (speaker series) on wellness topics such as physical fitness,
nutrition, work/life balance, and resiliency.
 Employees are required to participate in annual mental health check-up through LE –
AST (Check Up From the Neck Up) with additional counseling sessions available to
employees if needed.
 We participate in the Anoka County Peer Support team that provides critical incident de-
briefing and 24/7 emergency on-call service for all public safety personnel.
 General Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available to all City of Lino Lakes
employees.
 All City of Lino Lakes Employee are provided a single membership to Rookery
Community Center that has a wide array of physical fitness amenities.

Need:

The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department has experienced a marked increase in the number of
employees that have sustained physical and mental health injuries. Since 2018 through
6.21.2022 the City of Lino Lakes has experienced a financial loss of $1,359,486.66 for treatment,
lost time, and duty disability benefits stemming from these work injuries. Most importantly,
employees and their families have had to endure physical and emotional pain that we may be
able to prevent.

Proposal:

Develop enhancements to LLPSD Wellness Program that:
1. Provides staff with the knowledge, tools and resources to proactively address and
improve their individual wellness.
2. Focus on individual employee wellness to prevent and reduce physical and mental health
injuries.
3. Conduct ongoing evaluations of staff and the overall program to ensure the program is
beneficial to the employee and employer.
4. Creates an organizational culture that places a high priority on wellness throughout all
ranks and positions.
5. Reduce the financial impact to the City of Lino Lakes for work related injuries within the
LLPSD.
