CITY COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA ITEM 1G <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />MEETING DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />Jolleen Chaika, City Clerk <br />December 11, 2023 <br />Resolution 23-129 Approving a New Tobacco License <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The City of Lino Lakes requires a license for any business that wishes to sell tobacco products. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In June, 2023 a tobacco license was issued to the Corner Express, located at 7997 Lake Drive; <br />however, the business is pending sale and a new owner/operator will be operating the <br />convenience store and gas station effective January 2 ,2024. Under Chapter 602 of the city code, <br />a tobacco license may not transfer when a business changes hands and a new license must be <br />obtained by the new owner/operator. <br />An application by the future new owner of the convenience store, Lino Lake Property, Inc., has <br />applied for a new tobacco license for the remainder of the licensing year, through June 30, 2023. <br />Background checks for the corporate principals were conducted by Lino Lakes Public Safety and <br />no factors to deny the license were found. The application and required documentation has been <br />reviewed by the City Clerk and all licensing requirements have been met. <br />The full application is on file and available for review in the City Clerk's Office. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of Resolution 23-129, Approving a New Tobacco License for Lino Lake <br />Property, Inc.
