CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: May 29, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Accounting Clerk / Utility Billing <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Yelena Brook for the vacant Accounting <br />Clerk / Utility Billing position in the Finance Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Lynn Francis retired from the Accounting Clerk/ Utility Billing/ PC Technician position in <br />March. With the retirement of Francis, staff evaluated the position, and removed the IT duties. <br />Those duties are now being absorbed by the City’s IT contracted service with Metro-Inet. With <br />the PC Technician duties removed, this third role was dropped from the position title, the job <br />description was amended, and the salary range for the position was reduced. <br /> <br />At this time, staff has completed the recruitment process for the adjusted position of Accounting <br />Clerk/ Utility Billing, provided a conditional offer, and is recommending the approval of Ms. <br />Yelena Brook for the position. <br /> <br />Ms. Brook holds a dual Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration, has over <br />one year of experience in accounting, and over fourteen years in customer service. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $20.96, which is step two of the union wage schedule. The <br />union wage schedule has six steps. With the Council’s approval, Ms. Brook would start in the <br />position of Accounting Clerk/ Utility Billing on Monday, June 18, 2018. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Yelena Brook for the Accounting Clerk / Utility Billing position. <br />
