WS – Item 7
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item No. 7

Date: October 1, 2018

To: City Council

From: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director

Re: Arena Acres Park Update, Rick DeGardner

Background
On September 10, 2018 the Park Board, City staff, and Candace Amberg, Senior
Landscape Architect with WSB Engineering met with area residents of Arena Acres Park
to review conceptual plans and solicit feedback.

Attached is the master plan that was developed as a result of the September 10
discussion. This plan is being presented to the Park Board this evening for approval.

The tennis court amenity was strongly supported by residents attending the September 10
meeting. In order to expedite the construction of the tennis court, staff is recommending
proceeding with the installation of the class 5 aggregate base material and non-wear
course bituminous this Fall. This will allow the base and non-wear course layers to
experience a freeze/thaw cycle prior to the installation of the wear course layer. This
should provide a better end product.

Funding for this project was included in the Park Board’s recommendation of 2018 Parks
and Trails Capital Projects that was presented at the May 7, 2018 work session.

Requested Council Direction
Allow staff to coordinate the grading and installation of the base material this Fall.
Completion of the tennis court would then occur in the Spring of 2019.

Attachments
Arena Acres Master Plan
