2 <br /> <br />Support for this financial partnership can be found in the Lino Lakes Local Water Management <br />Plan. The following goals and policies related to water quality management are applicable to <br />the Centerville Alum Treatment project: <br /> <br />Goal 2.1 <br />Protect and improve water quality and the scenic and ecological values of City lakes, wetlands, <br />and other aquatic assets. <br />Policy 2.1B <br />Preserve and improve the recreational resources associated with water by improving water <br />quality. <br /> <br />Goal 2.2 <br />Initiate and continue collaborations to address, restore, and preserve the water quality of the <br />region’s lakes, wetlands, and other aquatic assets. <br />Policy 2.2A <br />Work with and partner with the RCWD, VLAWMO, and adjacent local governments to protect <br />high quality resources. <br />Policy 2.2B <br />Collaborate with adjacent jurisdictions and agencies to meet TMDL goals and remove impaired <br />water bodies from the impaired waters list. <br /> <br />Goal 7.1 <br />Identify, protect, and preserve the desirable natural areas and ecological and aquatic resources <br />of the community. <br />Policy 7.1B <br />Maintain the partnership of Lino Lakes and RCWD and other groups such as Anoka County to <br />maintain, restore, and manage the aquatic, aquatic dependent, and upland areas of the City. <br /> <br />The City contribution to the project would come from the Surface Water Management Fund. <br />This fund was created in 1992 to meet administrative, planning, ponding, and water quality <br />requirements imposed by State and Federal regulations. These funds are specifically intended <br />for water quality projects. The City annually plans for water quality improvements to <br />implement the Local Water Management Plan goals and policies. <br /> <br />The Environmental Board voted in favor of supporting the Centerville Lake aluminum sulfate <br />treatments at their January 31st, 2024 meeting. <br /> <br />The City Council was provided with an overview and background information on the alum <br />treatment project at the March 4th, 2024 Work Session. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />5
