1 <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA ITEM 3C <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources and Communications Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: June 10, 2024 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Part-Time Firefighter <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The City Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Ryan Dowd to the vacant Part- <br />Time Firefighter position within the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Dowd for the part-time position. <br /> <br />Dowd has completed Firefighter 1 & 2 as well as Hazardous Materials training and certification. <br /> <br />The starting wage for Dowd will be at $24.78 per hour, which is Starting Step of a 6 step wage <br />scale for the Part-Time Firefighting position. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, Dowd would start in the position on June 17, 2024. <br /> <br />The Public Safety Department currently has 10 Part-Time Firefighters on staff. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Please approve the appointment of Ryan Dowd to the Part-Time Firefighter position. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />None <br />231
