CITY COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA ITEM 3D <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources and Communications Manager <br />MEETING DATE: August 26, 2024 <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Paid On -Call Firefighter <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The City Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Jake Crooks to the Paid On -Call <br />Firefighter position within the Public Safety Department. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Crooks for the Paid On -Call Firefighter position. <br />Crooks will be stationed at Fire Station 2. Currently, the City has 9 firefighters at Fire Station 1 <br />and 10 firefighters at Fire Station 2. Fully staffed would be 20 firefighters at each station. <br />The starting wage for Crooks will be $21.79 per hour. Upon completion of 5 years of service, <br />Crooks would be eligible for a rate increase. <br />With the Council's approval, Crooks would start as a Paid On -Call Firefighter on September 2, <br />2024. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Please approve the appointment of Jake Crooks to the Paid On -Call Firefighter position. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />None <br />
