Park Board <br />October 2, 2024 <br />pg. 3 <br /> <br /> <br />DRAFT MINUTES <br /> <br />Mrs. Ballering asked about the additional funds we asked the City Council for. Mr. <br />Gooder replied the extra funds would be from a surplus. Mrs. Ballering would like to <br />consider the sand volleyball courts. <br />Mrs. Schmidt discussed the usage of Lamotte Park. Does it pay to hold onto this space? <br />Mr. DeGardner stated the city explored selling the land based on how it was plated and <br />deeded to the city; it's not something that can be done. Mrs. Schmidt asked if there was <br />an option to do something small there. <br />Mrs. Cutts would like to consider Shenandoah Park for an upgrade. Also, would like to <br />invest in Marshan Park. <br />Mr. DeGardner stated there is potential to expand the County Lakes trails in the future. <br />Mr. Kusterman asked why the City of Lino Lakes wouldn’t partner with Anoka County for <br />the sand volleyball courts. Mr. DeGarnder replied it’s a possibility. <br />Mrs. Schmidt asked if we should take Marshan Park off the table until more funds are <br />available. <br />Mr. Gooder discussed selling certain properties to fund more projects. <br />Mr. Huelman discussed moving away from neighborhood parks and moving towards <br />large or crossover parks. We have nine parks that are past the useful life period, and we <br />don’t have the resources to keep up. <br />Mr. Schmidt stated she is taking Marshan Park off her priorities list in 2025. Should we <br />invest in Wenzel Park? <br />Mr. Gooder stated that with the amount of funds for 2025, we will be able to invest in <br />one park. He is in favor of investing in Shenandoah Park. How can we generate revenue? <br />Do we get any revenue from sports associations using the open spaces at the parks? Mr. <br />DeGardner replied that the youth sports associations are not charged for rentals. Mr. <br />Gooder discussed partnering with the youth associations to update ice rinks and hard <br />surfaces. <br />Mr. Schmidt agrees with updating Shenandoah Park. <br />Mr. Kusterman is concerned about not spending all the funds. Would like to spend all <br />the funds in 2025. <br />Mr. Huelman stated to invest the money that serves the most people. <br />Mr. Kusterman asked what the Park Board should bring to the City Council. Mr. Huelman <br />replied we bring them a recommendation.
