r
D.A.R.E. ESSAY
By Cole Peterson
D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, was one of the
best classes I've ever been in. Why? Because our teacher, Officer Young, was funny
and always made me smile. He was also serious, though, when he talked to us about
alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana. After listening to all that Officer Young had to say, I
know that I will never use tobacco or marijuana, and I will never use alcohol until I am
twenty one years old or older. That is why it is so important to have D.A.R.E. to teach us
the facts about alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana so that we can make the choice to not
take drugs. It is illegal to drink alcohol if you are under twenty one years old. If you
drink too much alcohol, it can make you have poor judgment and loss of self - control. It
can also make you slow down in sports. If you drink too much, you can get drunk. If
you drink too much, you can also become an alcoholic. It is illegal to use tobacco if you
are under eighteen years old. Chewing tobacco can give you gum disease. Smoking
tobacco can cause you to have breathing problems. It can also cause you to have lung
cancer. Tobacco can kill you at any age. More than 400,000 people die every year
because they smoke tobacco. It is illegal to use marijuana. Marijuana can cause you to
have breathing problems and to get sick more often. People who smoke marijuana
