• <br />• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 1D <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />MEETING DATE: February 28, 2011 <br />TOPIC: Consider Application to conduct Exempt Lawful <br />Gambling, Lino Lakes Lions Club <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote) <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Lino Lakes Lions Club has applied for an exempt permit to conduct charitable <br />gambling (raffle, paddlewheel and tipboard) at their annual Prime Rib Dinner. The <br />event is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 171 <br />Elm Street. <br />Nonprofit organizations are allowed, under the state gambling statutes, to apply for an <br />exemption from a gambling license if they conduct five (5) or fewer gambling occasions <br />per calendar year, The Lino Lakes Lions Club has indicated that they will conduct five <br />(5) or fewer gambling occasions in this calendar year and therefore remains exempt <br />from requiring a gambling license. State statute does however require that nonprofit <br />organizations applying for an exempt permit notify the local unit of government and <br />receive approval. <br />The application and background check information are on file in the City Clerk's office. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Adopt a motion approving the application with no waiting period. <br />2. Deny the application for exemption. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Option No.1 <br />P38 <br />
