It is refreshing to see that the
151 county has now gotten the message and is coming forward with a plan that is more toward the culture
152 and nature of the area. Since the recommendations in the report may in some ways fall to future
153 councils as development occurs in the vicinity, he has requested that the council consider only
154 acceptance of the report and not its recommendations.
155
156 Council Member Rafferty moved to approve Resolution No. 11 -38 accepting the corridor report.
157 Council Member Roeser seconded the motion. It has been an objective of the city to initiate
an access management plan for this corridor that includes bicycle and pedestrian safety
improvements. The city had also received a petition to improve the Birch St and Ware Road
intersection. Anoka County initiated a study and last year the council received a report on their
recommendations. The council was concerned at that time about the four -lane divided roadway,
raised median type proposal and suggested an approach of short term improvements to balance safety
with convenience would be more appropriate. City staff has therefore worked with the county to
include a more staged approach to improvements for this corridor and those are reflected in the report
presented now. The council had reviewed the report at a work session; Mr. Grochala briefly reviewed
the recommendations.
4
P20
•
•
•
