• Intergovernmental collaborations
• Service demands — finding the right balance between taxes and services
• Address duplication of services
• Traditional delivery systems and methods of doing business
• Infrastructure
• Financial resources
• Charter Commission
• Traffic (getting around the city)
III. Strategies
These five strategies were identified in the discussion as the highest priorities of the City. They
are reflected in this draft for further review and consideration. Ultimately, they will serve as
the foundation for future goals and action plans of the City. Implementation of each, over
time, will ensure a lasting commitment to balancing financial resources with the City Council's
strategic direction.
A. Operational Results: Creative and innovative solutions
B. Municipal Infrastructure: Efficient investments for long term
C. Community Facilities: Pride and preservation
D. Community Development: Maximize resources, strengths and opportunities
E. Financial Health: Sustainable and reliable financial plan
IV. Moving Forward
The City Council is very interested in moving forward with the results achieved from the work
sessions. Once the work plan is approved by the City Council, in order to monitor and retain
momentum on the strategies and goals, these ideas were identified at the meeting. In the near
future each will require further discussion and elaboration:
• Create measurable action steps
• Assign responsible parties to track and monitor
• Be able to check things off a list
• Have long term goals and short term challenges (maybe on a chart); add to
weekly progress report /special council sessions
• Report format that allows ongoing discussion and supports dialogue, updates
and changes in the future
• Schedule work session topics for each strategy
• Communicate results to the staff and citizens
June 2011 2
