Honorable Mayor Jeff Reinert and
City Council Members
November 3, 2011
Page 2
RECEIVED
NOV 0 4 'Q
CITY OF LINO LAKES
In recent years, due to the economy, many cities have looked at relaxing zoning regulations to
encourage business growth. This can be done on an interim or permanent basis at your direction.
However, it is clear that Lakes Building Components will need more than one year to establish itself
as a viable long -term business. Therefore, we are requesting a term of at least three years and not
more than five years before the business would need to enclose the "loading area" which has now
been described as outdoor storage. All other raw material will be moved indoors once the City's Fire
Marshal responds to the report submitted by our client.
If the Council wishes to refine the proposed ordinance and narrow its application, you could take one
or more of the following approaches:
a. Provide for a specific sunset in the ordinance amendment;
b. Provide for a specific sunset in the interim use permit (which is required in any case
by statute);
c. Provide that it applies only to new businesses commenced on or after January 1, 2011;
d. Provide that it applies only to new businesses where substantial screening already
exists between an industrial use and residential neighbors; and /or
e. Describe the use as an outdoor loading area in which the finished product must be
removed regularly and at Least twice a week.
Given our commitment to resolving this issue with the City and the multiple meetings we have
attended for that purpose, we request the opportunity to address you at your work session on Monday.
In the meantime, please feel free to call me or my client, Mark Dietz, with any questions. Mr. Dietz's
number is (763) 571 -7464. Thank you for your consideration.
Willia . " .
