• <br />Ordinance Process Checklist: <br />Decide who has jurisdiction of the body of water: township, city, county - -one or more <br />units of government? <br />— multiple jurisdictions need identical ordinances with identical documentation <br />multiple jurisdictions must submit a Joint Powers Agreement <br />Fill out the worksheet (work from web -site lake surveys). <br />Talk to county DNR hydrologist if needed. <br />Determine the desired regulations. <br />Draft the ordinance. <br />Send draft ordinance to the DNR for preview. <br />_ Make recommended changes if any. <br />Send the final ordinance to the DNR with the following documentation for comment distribution: <br />completed worksheet; <br />_ map of the water body, highlighting the affected areas; <br />_ a statement explaining the necessity for the ordinance and the solution the ordinance will offer; <br />_ an account of the public hearing held concerning the proposed controls, with an account of the <br />statements made by each person who testified; <br />DNR circulates the ordinance and documentation for comments (takes about 2 weeks): <br />Regional Administrator; <br />Regional Enforcement Supervisor; <br />Regional Trails & Waterways Supervisor; <br />Regional Fisheries Supervisor; <br />Regional Hydrologist; <br />Water Access Coordinator; <br />Attorney General's Office; <br />County Sheriff's Department. <br />Upon receipt of the comments, the DNR recommends approval (or approval on condition that stated <br />changes are made). <br />Letters of approval are mailed to the _applicant, _the county sheriff, the regional DNR Enforcement <br />Supervisor (within 120 days). <br />Ordinance becomes effective_ when it has been posted by the units of jurisdiction and_ the ordinance <br />is on tile with the DNR. <br />
