COUNCIL MINUTES APRIL 22, 2002 <br />• The agenda was approved as amended. <br />• <br />• <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />Councilmember O'Donnell moved to approve the Consent Agenda, as presented. Councilmember <br />Carlson seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. <br />ITEM <br />DISBURSEMENTS: <br />April 22, 2002 (Check No. 64777 — <br />64906, $329,179.48) <br />Centennial Fire District (Check No. <br />13171 - 13195, $55.616.03) <br />OPEN MIKE <br />ACTION <br />Approved <br />Approved <br />American Cancer Society (June 21, 2002, Relay- for -Life at Centennial High), Amy Countryman <br />— Ms. Countryman came forward and stated this is the second season she has worked on the Relay - <br />for -Life event in the Centennial area. The Relay- for -Life is a community event that raised over $5 <br />million dollars last year. She stated the event will be held on June 21, 2002, at Centennial High <br />School. She explained what the program is, noting the events that will be held. She also stated that <br />this year's event is the 5th annual event in the Centennial area. <br />One of the event's volunteers, Cindy, came forward and displayed the bags that were placed around <br />the whole track at the school last year. She stated participants set up campsite areas and cancer <br />survivors do the first lap around the track. She told the story relating to pennies from heaven and <br />challenged the Council to put together a team to participate in the event. <br />Another volunteer, Shelly, came forward and stated she lives in Lino Lakes and works in the <br />Centennial School District. She stated everyone should get involved. She indicated she lost her <br />father to cancer and she wants to raise money for something that has touched everyone. She stated <br />Relay- for -Life is a real family event and everyone can get involved. She distributed a brochure that <br />includes information on how to participate and how to enter a team into the event. The Centennial <br />High School also has team packets available. <br />Councilmember Carlson asked how many participants were involved in last year's event. <br />Ms. Countryman stated there were 350 participants last year. This year's goal is 480 participants. <br />The volunteers encouraged everyone who participates to spend the whole night. They thanked the <br />Council for their time. <br />3 <br />
