•
•
•
Computer/Internet Use Policy
Employees may not eavesdrop or view other user's e-mail messages without explicit permission.
F. Installation of Hardware & Software
All hardware and software will be installed or downloaded by finance staff, or at the direction of
finance staff. Users who wish to run product demonstrations, or need to "download" software
from bulletin boards or the Internet must contact finance staff for assistance. No unauthorized
software may be installed. Only software acquired by the city's acquisition process shall be used
on the city's computer system.
Employees may not duplicate licensed software or related documentation. Any such duplication
may subject employees and/or the city to both civil and criminal penalties under the United States
Copyright Act.
Individual workstations are configured to operate in a complex, networked environment.
Employees may not change their system's setup files.
G. Security
Electronic information is a significant asset of the city. The goal of information security is to
protect information from unauthorized or inappropriate access or modification.
Users shall not add security to their workstations or files. Users who believe they have security
needs beyond current city standards should contact the finance department.
System users shall identify themselves to the system by signing on with their assigned user name.
Users shall never attempt to sign on the system with any other user name. All users shall
maintain passwords as required. Passwords shall not be shared with any other user.
An employee's ability to view, add or modify information in network files or on the server is
based on access rights configured by the city. These can be changed as needed.
All diskettes and downloaded files should be scanned for viruses before data is copied on to the
city's computer system. Employees are expected to virus scan their J: drives on a periodic basis.
If an employee is not familiar with virus scanning, please contact a member of the finance
department for help.
Employees will notify the finance department in the event that a virus is found.
