West Shadow Ponds Overview <br />City Council Work Session <br />July 19, 2000 <br />page 2 <br />Road Issues <br />• Extension of West Shadow Lake Drive to 62 " Street <br />-both are Municipal State Aid roads <br />-both are minor collectors <br />• New part of W. Shadow Lake Drive would be constructed north from 62nd with cul de <br />sac preventing connection to north (Birch Wood Acres) until 62nd St. is reconstructed. <br />• Ultimately, would provide better circulation in that area of the City. <br />• Better emergency access, as described by Fire Chief: <br />- improved access to Colonial Woods due to shorter distance from east <br />-new hydrant access for tanker trucks serving homes without utilities <br />Land Use <br />• Current land use plan: rural <br />• Draft land use plan: north side of 62" St. low density sewered residential <br />• Current zoning: Rural <br />• Proposed zoning: R -1X <br />Other Issues <br />• A number of residents in the area opposed the project because they did not want <br />additional growth in their area. <br />• Opposition also expressed to the extension of W. Shadow Lake Drive because of <br />fears relating to additional traffic on 62 "d St. <br />• City Engineer will hold 62 "d St. educational meeting for neighbors on August 2". <br />• <br />
