4. Modifying the project to include alternative means of providing utility service. <br />The City Administrator advised staff will explore the above options and another meeting will be held. Staff is <br />recommending the public hearing be continued to the August 28, 2000, Council meeting. <br />Mr. Lyle Bye, 775 Vicky Lane, came forward and thanked staff for working with the residents regarding this <br />issue. <br />Mr. Raymond Johnson, 7971 Nancy Drive, came forward and stated he will refrain from making comments <br />until August 28, 2000. <br />Mr. John Hudgens, 6661 Pelican Place, came forward and stated he had asked at the previous Council meeting <br />about the time frame regarding the County's turn back money for Highway 49. He requested an update from <br />Council. <br />The City Engineer advised that question must be answered by the County. He stated he has left a message for <br />the County Engineer regarding this issue. <br />Mr. Hudgens inquired about the format of the special Council work session relating to this issue. <br />Mayor Bergeson advised the purpose of the meeting is for Council Members to get an update and discuss the <br />project. The meeting will not include a public hearing. There will be other opportunities for resident input. <br />Council Members have not had any additional discussion regarding the project. The meeting is open to the <br />public. <br />The City Engineer referred Mr. Hudgens to Mr. Olson, County Engineer, regarding the turn back funds. <br />Mayor Bergeson directed staff to contact the County Engineer again regarding the turn back funds. <br />Ms. Arlene Averbach, 7855 Lake Drive, came forward and expressed concern regarding her neighbor losing a <br />tree to oak wilt. She stated she has many mature trees close to the dead tree. The City Forester visited the site <br />and suggested curdling the trees. She stated she called a consultant and the consultant stated curdling is not an <br />option. The consultant injected the trees. The City of Ham Lake is paying for the trenching of trees and <br />possibly the partial cost of injecting trees to help this problem. She stated the City Forester did not even <br />mention injections. She stated it is possible she would have lost three (3) trees. She stated she wants the <br />property trenched this fall or at least five big Oak trees will die. She asked the City to take a proactive look at <br />this problem. <br />Mayor Bergeson directed staff to investigate and follow up with Ms. Aberbach regarding this issue. <br />No one else was present for open mike. <br />ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT REPORT, DAN TESCH <br />Consider Hiring Les Rydeen as Full -time City Mechanic (3/5 Vote Required), Dan Tesch - Staff advised <br />the last day of work for Randy Meyer, the City Mechanic, was August 4, 2000. The City was fortunate enough <br />to have had Les Rydeen working along side Mr. Meyer for the past several months in a seasonal capacity. <br />When asked about continuing with the City in a full -time capacity, Mr. Rydeen accepted. Mr. Rydeen has been <br />doing a great job as mechanic, and comes highly recommended by the Public Works Superintendent. This offer <br />is contingent upon a physical exam, and pre - employment drug test and will take effect August 16, 2000. <br />• <br />3 <br />
