• <br />AGENDA ITEM 3B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Linda Waite Smith, City Administrator <br />MEETING DATE: December 11, 2000 <br />TOPIC: Termination of Employee <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />We are recommending termination of employment for a Public Works employee whose <br />attendance record and punctuality have been unacceptable. The background information <br />was reviewed by employment attorney Scott Lepak as well as the employee's union <br />representative. The notice of recommendation to terminate was sent to the employee by <br />certified mall on December 5, 2000, and advised him that he was entitled to a pre - <br />termination hearing with the City Council. That hearing was scheduled for 6:15 p.m. <br />December 11, 2000, before the start of the regular City Council meeting. <br />• The City Council is the hiring authority for the City. As such, the City Council needs to <br />make the final determination to terminate employment as well. Background information <br />has been provided in a confidential packet of information distributed December 4, 2000. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve termination of employment of Chad Havel. <br />2. Decline to approve termination of employment of Chad Havel. <br />3. Return to staff for further review and/or action. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />1.
