AGENDA ITEM NO. 3A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: February 12, 2001 <br />TOPIC: PUBLIC HEARING, Resolution 01 -20, Consideration <br />of Submitting Outdoor Recreation Grant Application <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) operates several financial <br />assistance programs. The purpose of the Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is to <br />increase and enhance outdoor recreation facilities. Eligible projects are for park <br />acquisition and /or development/re- development including picnic shelters, playgrounds, <br />athletic facilities, trails, boat accesses, fishing piers, swimming beaches, campgrounds, <br />and others. This program is for cities, counties and townships. <br />The Outdoor Recreation Grant Program is a very competitive program with hundreds of <br />grant applications submitted annually. Projects selected to receive a grant receive <br />assistance of up to 50 percent of total eligible costs. <br />The City Council recently authorized staff to submit an application in the amount of <br />$125,000 for the development of Clearwater Creek Park. As part of the application <br />process, a Public Hearing is required to obtain citizen input on the proposed Outdoor <br />Recreation Grant Application. <br />Resolution 01 -20 authorizes staff to submit an Outdoor Recreation Grant application, <br />and authorizes myself to execute such agreements as are necessary to implement the <br />project on behalf of the City of Lino Lakes. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve Resolution 01 -20. <br />2. Do not approve Resolution 01 -20. <br />3.
