• <br />• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 7E <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Powell, City Engineer <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 23, 2001 <br />TOPIC: First Reading, Ordinance No. 08 -01, Sale of City property on the <br />northeast corner of Birch Street/ Hodgson Road to Anoka County <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In 1995 the city purchased from Anoka County a .7 -acre property known as the "Kaiser" <br />property on the northeast corner of Birch Street and Hodgson Road. The property has a <br />small abandoned home and several outbuildings, and is zoned General Business. The <br />purchase price was $61,400. <br />The intent for the use of the property was to make ii: available for commercial <br />development. However, Anoka County later concluded that it needed a significant amount <br />of the parcel for roadway and storm water pond purposes related to the reconstruction of <br />Hodgson Road. <br />The County board has approved purchasing the entire parcel back from the city at the <br />current market value of $88,400. The owner of Apitz Garage and the County will <br />subsequently negotiate an agreement for the remainder of the land for the expansion of <br />the Apitz facilities. <br />This item was referred back to City staff on June 11, 2001. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve the First Reading of Ordinance No. 08 -01, Offering the sale of property <br />to Anoka County <br />2. Return to staff for further consideration <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option 1 - Approve the First Reading of Ordinance No. 08 -01. <br />
