•
•
•
Community Festival Memo
Ann Blair
April 7, 2004
Page 3
For this year, the timeline for an approval process would be:
April, 2004 — Application process
May, 10, 2004 — Applications brought to Council for action
June, 2004 — Preliminary checklist meeting with Staff
July, 2004 — Follow -up on checklist, report back to Council, receipt of necessary
approvals from Anoka County
August 18 -19, 2004 — Staff sign off on final checklist
August 20 -21, 2004 weekend — Event takes place
Week of August 23, 2004 — Follow -up meeting
If the festival becomes an annual activity, Staff recommends that the timeline be adjusted
so that the approval process begins in January of each year, with Council consideration in
February of each year. This gives the applicant more time to line up activities and
entertainment, with a specific weekend in mind, and would allow the event the best
opportunity for orderly expansion.
In many communities with well- established festivals, application is made by an
organization (rather than individuals) which meets year- round, and Staff would see this
as an appropriate future step in a successful long -term community festival.
