In the 1990s, there was a sharp departure from the pattern of the previous three <br />decades in which the vast majority of homes built were detached single - family homes. This likely is <br />the result of a period in the early part of the decade when land prices were depressed because of an <br />oversupply of homes, thus making detached product more affordable, and because of the large <br />number of persons in the age groups between 35 and 64, which are the prime years for owning a <br />single - family home when families often have school -aged children at home.
