IIIVirtual Block Club
The Lino Lakes Police Department developed the Virtual Block Club which is an e -mail list that
provides communication between the police and the community. The police department sends out
crime alerts, crime prevention information, wanted persons bulletins; and other valuable
information. The public can respond to these messages. The service is free to anyone who has e-
mail. Interested persons sign on to the program through the city website by clicking on Public
Safety and following directions to the Virtual Block Club. Membership information is not shared
with anyone nor are e-mail addresses broadcasted to anyone.
•
•
Child Passenger Safety
The Lino Lakes Police Department reminded parents that motor vehicle car crashes are the number
one cause of death and injury for children and young adults.
• 70% of deaths and 66% of injuries in motor vehicle collisions could be eliminated with the
use of car safety seats.
• More than 90% of safety seats are used incorrectly.
• More than 90% of safety seat violators have car seats but do
not use them consistently.
• More than 80% of children under 4 who died as motor
vehicle occupants were killed in survivable crashes.
• More children die in motor vehicle crashes than from all
childhood diseases combined.
• Each year approximately 110 passengers under the age of 11
are killed or severely injured in motor vehicle crashes in
Minnesota.
• Seventy percent of fatalities and severe injuries could be
prevented with the proper use of a child restraint, and fifty
percent could be prevented with proper safety belt use.
CSO William Owens
In an effort to assist parents and children in making vehicle travel safer, the Lino Lakes Police
Department participated in training several officers as Child Safety Seat Technicians. The officers
completed training in the proper installation and use of child safety seats and restraint systems in
vehicles. Officers assisted area parents and answered frequently asked questions regarding child
passenger safety. Child Safety Seat Clinics were held at various times throughout the community.
Lino Lakes Police Department 2006 Annual Report 13
