National Night Out Neighborhoods in Lino Lakes were invited to join forces on Tuesday, August 1, with thousands of communities nationwide for the 23rd annual National Night Out program. Pinto Lane National Night Out Block party This crime and drug prevention event is designed to: • Increase crime and drug prevention awareness • Generate support and participation in local anti -crime efforts. • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police - community relations. • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. On Tuesday, August 1st, thousands of Lino Lakes residents weathered the heavy rain and gathered in their neighborhoods to support National Night Out. Block party organizers improvised and moved their parties under tents or in garages. The children had a ton of fun splashing in puddles, playing games, or running in the rain. 42 neighborhoods were visited by the Lino Lakes Police Department, Centennial Fire District, North Ambulance, Lino Lakes Parks & Recreation, Lino Lakes Prison, Target, and Ronald McDonald. Youth Safety Camp The 2006 Youth Safety Camp was the 13th annual and the fact it was full to capacity is a tribute to its ongoing popularity. The program is intended for children entering 4th grade. This past year we once again offered it to a full capacity of 150 campers. Conducting the camp is a joint effort between Police, Fire and Parks and Recreation Departments. Held the second Thursday in August, the program increases a child's knowledge and awareness of all aspects of safety, while having a fun experience. The subject matter covered at the camp includes: first -aid, bike, fire, drug, water, personal, electrical, and outdoor safety. The camp is set in an informative, but fun and exciting atmosphere. The camp fee of $10.00 includes lunch, shirt, special giveaways and an awards ceremony at the end of the day. Lino Lakes Police Department 2006 Annual Report 14 • •
