Interview Questions — City Engineering Services
Note: Interview format — 15 minute presentation followed by question and answers.
1. Please tell me what you know about our City and its engineering needs? What do
you think will be the 2 most challenging issues from a Municipal Engineering
perspective for the City of Lino Lakes in the next 5 years?
2. Do you work exclusively with the public sector? If not, who are your "other" clients?
What percentage of revenue is from "PRIVATE" work?
3. What other cities does the primary engineer work with? Can the primary engineer
respond to immediate concerns given other work commitments?
4. Situation: The City undertakes a road reconstruction project in a traditional
residential neighborhood setting for which your firm is primarily responsible for the
design, oversight and execution of the project. With the completion of the project in
one cul -de -sac area a resident's basement is now flooding due to the elevations of
road surface being altered. In your opinion, who is financially responsible to correct
these elevations and to reimburse the resident for damages?
5. Does your firm have an internal "Quality Control" capability. Please explain how the
City of Lino Lakes would be benefitted by such capability. Tell us about a significant
mistake was made with a city client, how it was found, how it was corrected, and
how did you ensure it didn't occur again.
