In 2006, a total of 20,046 <br />advocacy and support services were provided to victims of domestic <br />violence by our Community Program. Lino Lakes residents received <br />507 support and advocacy services. This was an increase of 126 <br />services from the previous year. I have included a budget that details <br />the major services provided to Lino Lakes' residents, the total cost of <br />providing those services, and the portion of those costs for which we <br />are requesting financial support from the City of Lino Lakes. <br />Community Program services include: assistance in filing protection <br />orders, accompaniment to subsequent hearings, crime victim advocacy <br />immediately following a domestic assault and throughout the criminal <br />court process, follow -up provided to patients at Mercy and Unity <br />Hospitals and clinics, safety planning, information and referral <br />services. Additionally, community support groups are held each week <br />in various locations throughout the county. Monthly Legal Clinic <br />services and Family Law sessions are also offered to assist victims in <br />understanding their legal options. <br />Domestic violence is a serious crime that impacts the public health and <br />safety of every community in this country. The negative consequences <br />of domestic violence reach beyond family and friends into the <br />workplace and to society as a whole. In 2003, the Centers for Disease <br />Control and Prevention reported that health - related costs of domestic <br />violence exceeded $5.8 billion each year in the United State. Nearly <br />half of all battered women report some type of injury as a result of <br />
